Asbestos ducting - Grills - Dampers - Air flow issues & Answers

Asbestos Removal

The photo on the right is asbestos ducting in an attic.

Many homes built with asbestos ducts have insufficient air flow problems. Especially when it pertains to air conditioning.

Asbestos has been directly related to major health issues and can only be removed by a licensed abatement company.

Although they say asbestos ducting is not harmful if it is not disturbed, I do not agree.
If your ducting is metal and is wrapped with asbestos then I agree with that statement.
If it is just asbestos ducting without metal, I would remove it immediately.
When your system is running, the air is flowing through the ducting and there is a vibration. May be small but still a vibration and so the ducts are being disturbed.
Why take the chance with your life and the life of your loved ones? Hate to find out later that they were wrong and that it was harmful after all.

If you are going to spend the money to have air conditioning installed, do it right and have the asbestos ducts replaced with new flex duct by a licensed contractor.
